It has been one year since my parents announced their separation. I have learned that in that time that to begin with, there is nothing but blame. But it was odd, that I was blaming my own mother more than my father. As though she owed me more than him. I was wandering through the internets when I stumbled on this article Am I My Mother’s Feminist? From Skirt Magazine This was written by Haley Swenson (Also a writer on The Pop Perspective And Pushback) she has had the same struggles as me. In fact- it’s crazy how much of our situation was alike.
I found my father not having to own up to anything. I found myself yelling at my mom for not working it out. But it’s hard to recognize that you’re wrong. To recognize that no one is to blame- and if there is, it’s the world on your parent’s shoulders in a time of parent separation. Because it is their own decision, together and apart. My mother’s ideals for feminism have never shown through to me before recently. I guess that influence of her telling me I can be whatever I want all my life has built me up to be what I am today. I thank my mother now for giving me that confidence to be who I want to be. She’s given me the strength to be a bisexual feminist teenager. And she’s never doubted me on it. Because I am “My Mother’s Feminist” and there’s no other way I’d have it.
Riot has gotten lazy in her old age. I’m feeling a bit sad about it, and due to the pestering of a friend, I’ve decided to do another music post. This is for you Ven/Spec. We can’t decide on the name yet. Panic! At the Disco- Northern Downpour
In this song it explores simple things that make you have a little bubble of happiness. Riot finds the song to be an instantaneous mood improver. “Hey moon, please forget to fall down.” Happy Thursday!
Trash TV never looked so good. With a few characters there’s been a little queerness. However, I actually really liked how they portrayed it. It wasn’t like Riley, guy who kissed Peter, was completely flamboyant. He was actually Degrassi’s football star. It’s also not that he threw himself at Peter because of sexual confusion, unlike some other TV shows. He truly liked Peter and made a move. My favorite moment is when Mia, Peter’s girl, tells him, “You liked him before you knew he was gay. Why can’t you still? Plus, he needs the friends.” Peter confronts him which of course results in Riley pushing Peter against lockers saying “nothing happened.” Five star acting too! My friends often reenact this scene. Oh god, if only they knew that it might one day be a reality.
Modest Mouse- World at Large. I was talking to my friend and he’d said he’d been cooped up all day and needed out. Then I told him, “Your life is a Modest Mouse song.” Ta-da, beautiful song lyrics too. Keep in mind, this is not the official video. It was done for some media class who decided it was Youtube worthy. Enjoy ladies and gents! Keep rocking!
As shocked as you all are, this is how the media is portraying classic Goth look. Of course Tripp Pants and black lipstick means your child is most likely worshiping Satan while they should be doing homework. This is of course excluding the terrible Medieval Times shtick. Few teens even realize that it is deeper than Hot Topic. Goth is just fashion now, so why does everyone think it signifies rebellion?
Suite Life of Zack and Cody is actually a fairly funny show, even though I’m much too old to be watching, Disney always seems to draw me in. But when Maddie, a cute Catholic girl who goes to council “Peace on Earth”, a Catholic summer camp. She finds all the girls are severely troubled. Especially one combat boot wearing girl. She rarely speaks and is very aggressive when she does. Coincidence that she would be looking entirely badass, I think not.
Riot is curious if every time she wears black if she is being judged as scary or not. Until these stereotypes are gone, my generation will keep feeding. yourscenesucks.com Has got it down to a science. So keep pouring it in media, let’s add a few more characters to the Your Scene Sucks crowd.
Riot made her promise to you, the readers (Of course you already know what you are, I was going for a dramatic affect) to post a hell of a lot this Thanksgiving Break. Sadly, I have not done any, It is currently Sunday, about 2:00 AM. But I will be making a lot of posts in the next 24 hours. So stay tuned. Also, I think I’ve found one of my favorite musical bloggers ever. http://whereisntmymind.wordpress.com/ Plus, triple kudos for a clever title. Have a look. I know I’m a better person because of it.
Sorry I haven’t been able to keep up. Musical Melody will not be the only segment for long! This Thanksgiving Break I’ll be writing fairly frequent. Maybe this major girl power song can compensate for some of the lost posts.
Riot had a pretty pleasant weekend at her father’s house. For the most part, she has been cleansed of her angst. Hoorah! Of course there’s always going to be a little left. *Long sigh*
I am turning into a total anime freak, so for some laughs to bring me out of this Proposition 8 Buzz Kill Mood, I am going to tell you all about my favorite anime.
I just finished three volumes of Kagetora. It is by Akira Segami. Anime News Network if my best friend. Check out the site. I’m a bit too scatter brained to go into much detail right now. Brief summary: Ninja is sent to train Yuki (Hime to him) the future clumsy head of the Toudou family. Yuki is his age and he finds himself falling in love with his MASTER?!
They should be paying me to write these summaries. Well, pick up a copy at your local indie store… or a Barnes and Noble. Are they that different anymore?
